We want to make chess an engaging activity for people of all ages and skill levels, and make it accessible to everyone regardless of background or ability, but much more importantly, we want you to have fun and enjoy your time at the club.
If you’re a beginner you must have realistic expectations, chess is easy to learn, but it takes a long time to gain a better understanding of the game. You have to be prepared to get beat… A LOT!
To see real improvement it takes a lot of hard work and a hundreds/thousands of games played.
Lots of new players come to the club after playing online via Lichess or Chess.com, these are great sites for getting chess practise in, but THEE only way to play chess ‘properly’ is face to face.
The learning curve is much quicker when you can ask your opponent where you went wrong or simply discuss a game you’ve just played.
At Peterlee we’re all just enthusiastic amateurs. We range in strength from highly beatable to borderline county standard, but we all have one thing in common, our passion for the game.
We’ll help you out as much as possible, learn the game and improve at a very fast rate and hopefully have a load of fun in the process.
