NCCU meeting on sat 5th
Jun 8th, 2010, 6:30pm

just a couple of things that might be of intrest to local players

Anybody qualifiying for the British champs will be able to apply to the NCCU for funding for accomodation and living expenses this starts from next years champs at Sheffield.

Durham and cleveland will be able to put a joint team into the NCCU county champs.

Cleveland has to nominate a school for the NCCUs school award as well as nominating a school they have to submit a sitation.

I thaught i had better post this here as i have no idea what is going on in cleveland as i have been given no imformation

In recent years there has been concern in Cleveland about the expense of entering a team into the County Championships (players' enthusiasm perhaps being another factor). A combined Cleveland / Durham team, with costs being shared between the two counties could perhaps be a way forward.
There was no talk at this year's CCA AGM about a county champs entry, however there is supposed to be an EGM coming up in September, maybe this could be discussed then? Will that give enough time to enter a team in the 2010/11 event?
CCA registration fees are set these days according to what the members want. The more they want, the more the cost. This factor may mean that it won't be possible for this year anyway? undecided

The plan is to hold a jamboree over two days so the only cost to durham and cleveland will be for petrol.
Which ever section we put a team into the games will be played over 1 day so there are minimal costs as the NCCU will be paying for the venue and refreshments

Sounds like a lot better system Bill. The national stages will be the same as they've always been I suppose. This was the most difficult stage of the competition I found.

I know the Durham players will pay most of the petrol costs themselves leaving the county to round up the figures to the drivers would the Cleveland players be prepared to do this also.
That way we would be doing this for ourselves and not letting Clevelands lack of a county team buget get in the way of a good days chess.

If we do manage to make the national stages we will cross that bridge if and when it arrives i know the last time Durham made the national stage we hired a coach and the players all chipped in £10 and we all had a great day of chess and socialising as everybody could have a drink ect.
