| Teach them that the reason we play chess is to take our minds off the fact that life is a meaningless and ultimately futile ride into oblivion peppered by pain, angst, and self-delusion, all knowledge is ultimately lies and that the only possible conclusion to the problem of man's relation to the universe is extinction. If they come back the next week lay the heavy stuff on 'em. | |

| Sounds good Bill. Burn up the physical as well as the mental. Kids love that sort of thing! | |

| I read somewhere about this setup for the kids: You have the board on one table, and the clock on another, some small distance away. The kids have to run back and forth after each move. |

| This list is now updated, just a few comings and goings Chris Duggan M'Bro has now left the area, FNS is staying at Guisbrough, and Steve MacCormack is returning to the Hungarians,as is for those who don't know Robert Harding after an 18yr absence, there will be now an upturn in fortunes for the 'Westgarth' there are also new codes for those who previously didn't have one ,which for those interested can be found on the CCA site list. those that require estimates will have to wait a little while yet, until things become a little clearer to me. |

| Thanks for your comments. Our intention for the club is to have fun!!! I love seeing kids chopping each others pieces off at a million miles an hour, because that shows a love of the game. If we can tap into that then we can hopefully develop their game as well, I am planning to sneak some training in. No more than 5 minutes a night. If you know any kids in the Darlington area that fancy playing, then its the Darlo club Monday's 18:00 - 19:00. |

| At the risk of attracting more unwelcome comment I will comment on what is an important issue that concerns more than the CCA. Northumbria Chess Association has its own seperate junuior association which I believe is a registered Charity and those involved are CRB cleared. I believe earlier this year Petrean took a bus load of children to a chess event and all the parents travelling with the children had to be CRB cleared. I have not kept up to date with recent developments in this area, something I will put right soon, and thus I am not sure exactly what is currently involved in so far as how it all impinges on adults. At one stage parents staying with the children at a 'club', a junior activity organised by that club did not need to be CRB cleared but most certainly any adult involved in the organisation/coaching of children must be CRB cleared for the activity organised by that club. Having a CRB clearance for another activity does not count as Ian has mentioned. Apart from CRB issues any club running a junior section has a legal 'duty of care' requirement and should carry out risk assesments not least to protect those officials running a club. A seperate junior club is a very good idea provided everything is done correctly. Clubs where children mix with adults is the grey area and a minefield. Adult members of chess clubs are not CRB cleared and as we know from recent experience an undesirable turned up at a north east club but was quickly identified. It would be unreasonable for clubs having juniors mixing with adults to check out all the members. Parents staying on the premises with their children where those children are in adult company is okay I think but as I say this may have changed. My son takes my grandson to Karate and he's not CRB cleared however the parents dont mix with the children who are under the supervision of a CRB cleared coach. Thats different from what appears to have happened in Northumbria where the parents were mixing with the children. Sadly it is a minefield and I am currently preparing a paper for next years AGM explaining why the CCA should not have a junior organiser. The Cleveland area now has someone being paid by an organisation as an area co-ordinator/coach working in the schools and this makes it unecessary for the CCA to have a junior organser simply because someone is doing it and getting paid to do it. Removes all the hassle of sorting out CRB checks and making sure someone is suitably qualified. This is more of a general interest issue hence I have posted. I wont get involved in discussions about CCA business.(or much else for that matter) |

| Its all very complicated my understanding if the parents are there with there own children they dont need crb clearance but i maybe wrong. The law was softened in the last 12 months that was the old law i think Paul.I need to do more checking up on this minefield |

| Apparently anyone who attends the Junior club with their children also has to be Enhanced CRB checked. | |
